Weighbridges located above ground level are pitless and require in/out ramps. Pitless weighbridges are appropriate for situations when foundation excavation is problematic or pit building is costly. Because the building is above ground level, vehicles may only approach the weighbridge from two directions, where ramps are available.

Pitless-type weighbridges, often known as surface-mounted weighbridges, are built above the level of the road. They do not require a pit for installation and just need sloped ramps to allow vehicles to approach the weighbridge. This style of weighbridge is excellent for areas where foundation excavation is difficult or pit building is costly. Because these constructions are above ground, vehicles may only reach the weighbridge from the ramps provided. Construction of this sort of weighbridge necessitates greater room.
